Activity Overview
Rheum2Learn 2.0 is case-based fundamental clinical rheumatology education for residents. Each interactive activity includes three patient cases that focus on the care and assessment of individuals with rheumatologic diseases.
In this activity, learn how to identify clinical manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), interpret test results, develop a differential diagnosis, identify necessary screenings, and review treatment options for patients with SLE.

Target Audience
Residents in training who may provide care for patients with rheumatic diagnoses in primary care, inpatient, critical care, and other clinical contexts.
The activity may also be of interest to medical students, fellows in training, advanced practice providers, practicing physicians, and other health care professionals who seek to strengthen their clinical knowledge of rheumatic diseases.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize clinical manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
- Identify risk factors and triggers for lupus flares
- Determine appropriate laboratory testing to support the diagnosis of SLE
- Effectively communicate results of initial evaluation to patients and collaborate with specialists as appropriate
- Understand the role of prevention in the primary care of patients with SLE including careful attention to the following: modifiable cardiovascular risk factor screening, bone health, reproductive health, contraception, vaccinations
- Recognize the importance of collaboration between a rheumatologist and obstetrician with experience in high-risk pregnancy in monitoring pregnant patients with lupus
