Activity Information

The ARP NP/PA Onboarding Toolkit consists of three webinars:

  • Webinar 1 - Why Hire an NP/PA?: This live webinar is intended to highlight the roles of Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Physician Assistant (PA), address the increasing need for these additional advanced practice providers, and help answer the question for many practices that are considering hiring a qualified NP/PA.  Join in and listen to this 30-minute interview style webinar as Daphne Scaramangas-Plumley, MD and Bryant Uy, PA-C openly discuss these views from inside their rheumatology medical practice.  
  • Webinar 2 - Mentoring an NP/PA: This webinar focuses on mentoring. Items discussed include different styles and how to tailor them to individual offices, as well as how to avoid any potential pitfalls that come with mentorship. Join in and listen to this 60-minute webinar as Donald E. Thomas, Jr., MD, FACP, FACR and Chikako Riester, CRNP from Arthritis and Pain Associates of PG County for a discussion of these topics and more.
  • Webinar 3 - NP/PA Evaluation and Feedback: This webinar focuses on evaluation and feedback. The discussion will be based around determining the methods of evaluation and assessment in PA and NP performance in rheumatology. Join in and listen to this 30-minute webinar as Robert Ettlinger, MD and Neil Moody, PA-C discuss these topics and more.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this series, participants should be able to do the following:

Webinar 1

  • Highlight the role(s) of an NP/PA in rheumatology practice
  • Demonstrate how the utilization of NP/PAs in rheumatology can help address workforce challenges
  • Inform practices on issues to consider when adding an NP/PA

Webinar 2

  • Describe how rheumatologists should set up the on-boarding of an APC into their practice
  • Recognize the importance of having the APC shadow the rheumatologist as part of the on-boarding and mentoring process
  • Outline the transition of APC from new hire to independent rheumatology provider
  • Understand the importance of ongoing learning for an APC in rheumatology

Webinar 3
  • Define and contrast feedback and evaluation in the setting of clinical practice with a NP and PA
  • Discuss the types of feedback appropriate to rheumatology NPs and PAs at different stages of their onboarding and clinical practice career
  • Discuss the evaluation process for rheumatology NPs and PAs: initial, periodic, annual

Online Activity Refund Policy

  • Requests for cancellations and refunds must be received in writing to education@rheumatology.org within 24 hours of the online activity enrollment date.
  • Completed online activities are not eligible for a refund. 
  • Refunds will be subject to an administration fee per person and per activity: 15% for members; 30% for potential members.
  • Canceled online activities are nontransferable.
