The Training Rheum 2026
Activity Overview
Dates:
- Virtual: March 1, 2026 - April 24, 2026
- In-person: April, 24, 2026 (at the State-of-the-Art Clinical Symposium in Rosemont, Illinois)
The Training Rheum is an impactful, concise training program for advanced practice providers (APPs) new to rheumatology. This hybrid program combines virtual and in-person training on comprehensive history and physical examinations for new patients; performing a disease-focused history and physical examination for established patients; formulating an appropriate differential diagnosis; ordering appropriate diagnostic testing and interpreting testing to create treatment plans; recognizing the impact of social determinants of health; discerning skin disease manifestations in diverse populations; and diagnosing and managing rheumatic diseases in the rheumatology setting.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Perform a comprehensive history and physical examination for a new patient, including a detailed musculoskeletal examination, joint assessment, and joint injections
- Perform a disease-focused history and physical examination for a follow-up patient, including musculoskeletal examination, joint assessment, and joint injections
- Formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis
- Order appropriate laboratory, radiographic examinations, and other diagnostic testing
- Utilize and integrate results of laboratory, radiographic examinations, and other diagnostic testing into management plans under the supervision/collaboration of a rheumatologist
- Recognize the impact of social determinants of health and health disparities on provision of care and disease self-management when providing healthcare to diverse communities and populations
- Recognize skin manifestations in diverse patient populations/ skin of color
- With appropriate supervision/collaboration, recognize and manage a number of rheumatic diseases in the adult rheumatology clinic setting
Target Audience
Advanced practice providers (APPs) including both nurse practitioners and physician assistants, fellows in training, and pharmacists who are new to rheumatology.
