Activity Overview

Participants will learn what juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is, how to take a history and perform a physical exam, the process of diagnosing JIA, and the different types of JIA and what treatment options may be available.  Finally, participants will have access to resources to help them co-manage JIA patients and understand how to communicate with patient’s families about JIA.

Registration is complimentary.


Target Audience

Rheumatologists, primary care physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurses, physician assistants, residents, educators, fellows in training and rheumatology interprofessionals who care for pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases, particularly JIA.


Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify presenting symptoms and signs of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)

  • Explain different JIA treatment options

  • Describe possible complications of JIA

  • Identify specialized needs for children with JIA

This activity advances the recognition, treatment, and overall care management of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who fail to achieve treatment targets. It also  addresses anti-TNF cycling and when to switch to a therapy with another mechanism of action (MOA).
