William Bernal, MD, MPH, RhMSUS Dr. William Bernal is a pediatric rheumatologist, a specialist in caring for children with rheumatic diseases. He is an expert in pediatric amplified pain syndromes and is co-director of the UCSF Pediatric Amplified Pain Rehabilitation Program, an inpatient interdisciplinary program that aims to help patients disabled by amplified pain restore function and relieve pain. His research focuses on patient-reported outcomes related to pain rehabilitation, as well as the role adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in patients with chronic pain. He earned his medical degree from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, followed by a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and is certified in musculoskeletal ultrasound by the ACR.
