Rheum2Learn 2.0 is case-based, fundamental clinical rheumatology education for residents. Each interactive activity includes three patient cases that focus on the care and assessment of individuals with rheumatologic diseases.
In this activity, learn more about rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the most common type of inflammatory arthritis. Practice identifying clinical manifestations, interpreting test results, and developing a differential diagnosis and treatment plan for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Target Audience
Residents in training who may provide care for patients with rheumatic diagnoses in primary care, inpatient, critical care, and other clinical contexts.
The activity may also be of interest to medical students, fellows in training, advanced practice providers, practicing physicians, and other health care professionals who seek to strengthen their clinical knowledge of rheumatic diseases.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the typical presentation of rheumatoid arthritis
- Review the epidemiology, socioeconomic impact, and prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis
- Recognize the common MSK exam findings of inflammatory/rheumatoid arthritis
- Understand the initial work-up needed to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis
- Recognize potential pulmonary involvement of rheumatoid arthritis and determine the appropriate work-up and need for high clinical suspicion
- Identify differential diagnosis in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis and pulmonary symptoms
- Identify the radiographic findings of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
- Understand infection risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and identify appropriate vaccinations
- Recognize the increase in cardiovascular risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and demonstrate how to incorporate rheumatoid arthritis into cardiovascular risk-factor management
- Identify medications for rheumatoid arthritis that should be avoided during pregnancy
